About

We’re based in Auckland and Northland but deliver projects across New Zealand.
We prefer to lead as the main contractor, getting involved early to shape better outcomes, offer practical buildable solutions, and make the job run smoother from start to finish.

Our origins

Oxcon was founded in 2012 by Nick Denham, Greg Dewe, and Steve Livesay, three experienced engineers who believed civil construction could be done better. With backgrounds on major projects across New Zealand and overseas, they set out to build a company that was hands-on, technically sharp, and fully accountable.
From day one, Oxcon has been about ownership, accountability, and building smart. That mindset has shaped who we are and how we show up on site – and it’s what’s made us a trusted contractor for successfully delivering complex infrastructure challenges.

What we stand for

Our Intent

We’re not here to make up the numbers. We’re here to make a difference in how projects are delivered, how problems are solved, and how teams work together.
We challenge ourselves, that’s how we get better at what we do.
We’re passionate, practical, and sharp. We cut to the chase. We take ownership. We make things happen.
We’re not trying to be the biggest, but we’re always aiming to be the best at what we do.
We back ourselves to lead, plan well, and build right. We take ownership, challenge ourselves, and stay focused on delivering the best outcome for our clients, our teams, and the communities we build for.

Values

Our values keep us aligned, accountable, and operating as one team, with each other and with our clients. They’re not just words on a wall. They shape how we show up and how we deliver projects.

Integrity

We own our actions, speak honestly, and follow through. We back each other, front up when needed, and do what we say we’ll do.

Ownership

We don’t wait to be told. We take responsibility. If something needs fixing, we fix it. We follow through and finish strong.

Collaboration

We work alongside clients, consultants and crews – listening, sharing ideas, and pulling in the same direction.

Adaptive

Every job is different. We stay sharp, learn fast, and adjust our approach to suit the challenge.

Innovation

We look for better ways to build, simplifying the complex, challenging assumptions, and turning problems into solutions. If there’s a better way to do it, we’ll find it.

Drive

We push ourselves and each other to raise the bar. We plan with intent, stay sharp, and take on challenges with confidence.

What makes us different?

We’re employee owned.

The people who own the company are the people on the job. Our directors and shareholders stay hands-on, actively involved in delivery, and directly accountable for performance. That means faster decisions, sharper oversight, and a team that backs itself to deliver.

We think like engineers – and act like builders.

Smart thinking is only valuable if it’s buildable. We understand design, we interrogate the brief, and we offer practical, optimised ways to deliver. We’re known for turning complex scopes into simple, effective solutions that save time, save money, reduce risk, and avoid rework.

We run projects properly.

Our planning is deliberate, our management is sharp, and our execution is focused. We drive programmes forward with clear sequencing, constant monitoring, and full alignment between site, office and client teams.

We act as one team.

Everyone at Oxcon takes ownership. We don’t deal in silos or hierarchy; we collaborate across roles and disciplines to keep the job moving. Our culture is grounded in respect, accountability, and doing what’s right for the project.

How we work

There’s no shortcut to doing things properly.
We bring a clear plan, a sharp eye for detail, and a leadership team that backs the job all the way through. That’s how we deliver quality, earn trust, and keep projects moving.
We handle a wide range of projects, from small, community-focused works to large, complex infrastructure.

We own the programme.

We don’t just meet deadlines, we drive them. We plan thoroughly, sequence smartly, and keep our foot on the pedal so nothing drifts.

We pay attention to the details.

Whether it’s scope, cost, or quality, we stay close to the detail. That’s how we avoid surprises, reduce risk, and deliver exactly what’s needed.

We lead from the front.

Our people show up ready to lead – on site, in meetings, and in planning rooms. We’re not afraid to take responsibility or make the tough calls when it counts.

We keep the wheels turning.

Professionalism isn’t a buzzword. For us, it means diligent project management, clear communication, and making sure every moving part is accounted for.

We understand risk and opportunity.

We ask the right questions early. We plan around the real risks, spot where the opportunities are, and come to the table with solutions.

We bring engineering smarts.

We don’t just follow the drawings, we understand the why. That means we can interrogate the brief, resolve issues faster, and help shape better outcomes.

We build a strong site culture.

Every job runs better when the culture’s right. That’s why we back straight talk, mutual respect, and shared ownership of the outcome.

We use the right tools.

3D construction models and the use of virtual construction help us price accurately, sequence better, build smarter, and avoid surprises on site. It’s planning that pays for itself.

Our team

We’ve built a tight team with a wide range of skills and depth of experience, from seasoned engineers and site managers who’ve delivered major projects, to up-and-comers who bring fresh thinking and energy.
Everyone brings something different: technical expertise, commercial acumen, sharp planning, or deep site knowledge. We work together, we back each other, and we get the job done right.
We have a small, handpicked team, covering recently graduated engineers, site managers from all sorts of backgrounds, and project managers who’ve worked across New Zealand and offshore. And we’ve got a high performing team at the Oxagon who tie it all together.
We try to keep our supply chain consistent, with many key partners that we’ve worked with for years. Good buggers. People we trust.
Our strength is in our diversity of skills, experience, and interests, but at our core, we’re a team of leaders who embrace ownership and accountability. Individually and collectively. And when that’s paired with an engaged client, we’re confident we will deliver the best project outcome.

CLL partnership

A shared history, a stronger team
CLL has been part of Oxcon’s story from day one. The two companies have worked side-by-side for more than a decade.
In 2021, CLL and Oxcon created Oxcon CLL with equal shareholdings, formalising a partnership built on mutual respect, complimentary capabilities, and a history of successful delivery. The result is a tight, coordinated team that combines big project muscle with hands-on execution.
That partnership brings real depth to the table. It gives Oxcon access to CLL’s extensive plant fleet, in-house expertise in piling, retaining, and ground improvement, and a trusted partner when the job demands more horsepower.
More than the sum of our parts
We know how to work together because we’ve done it, time and time again. Oxcon and CLL have jointly delivered major projects across Auckland, Waikato, and Northland, including for Waka Kotahi, KiwiRail, Auckland Council, and Auckland Transport.
The model works because it’s built on aligned values and a shared focus on delivering the best outcome for our clients. Whether we’re leading or backing each other as subcontractors, the result is the same: tight delivery, deep capability, and a team that knows how to get the job done.
