AMETI RETAINING WALL

This project involved construction of a 60m-long piled retaining wall on Lagoon Drive adjacent to the Panmure Roundabout in Auckland.  The wall consists of 86no. 10m x 600mm dia. piles with a cast in-situ capping beam on top and precast facing panels.

The site posed several challenges including limited access, heavy traffic, difficult ground conditions and significant vibration risks to adjacent structures (AT’s Project Office as pictured). These risks were addressed through innovative plant selection and an alternative piling methodology.

An EK110 Piling Rig was used that was small enough to access the site and allowed the piling to be completed using a Continuous Flight Augur (CFA) technique. The CFA technique minimised vibration risk, eliminated the need for casings and heavy craneage, and reduced the risks presented by poor geotechnical conditions at low levels.
