Orakei Basin Boardwalk Section 3
Balustrade Replacement

This project was a design & build contract for NZTA, which required concept and detailed design for a replacement balustrade along the length of the Orakei Basin Boardwalk. The approved design comprises radiata pine timber posts with ‘Bokara Grey’ painted steel infill frames and an iroko hardwood timber capping rail with an in-rail LED lighting system.  Physical works included the removal of the existing steel and timber handrails, fabrication offsite of the new handrail units, installation of 1300lm of new balustrades, and installation and commissioning of the in-rail lighting system.  The project was undertaken over three months, without any closures of the boardwalk to allow continued use by pedestrians and cyclists throughout the project.
