The Omaru Bridge is a 50.3m-long, 3m-wide pedestrian and cycle bridge forming a key part of the Tāmaki Path network. Constructed in a challenging marine environment, the bridge is founded on 24 SED timber piles drilled into the Coastal Marine Area, requiring careful sequencing within limited tidal windows.

Originally designed for in-situ construction, we proposed a prefabricated construction methodology, significantly reducing environmental impact, improving quality control, and minimising time spent working at height. Prefabricated bridge sections were assembled off-site and installed using a 400T crane.

Managing CMA access was a key challenge, with 6-hour tidal working windows requiring careful planning. A combination of swamp matting, steel casing, and tremie concrete pouring was used to install the piles while preventing contamination of the marine environment. In addition to foundation works, we successfully managed design modifications, including a piled abutment at the southern end and a custom stainless-steel handrail, adding durability and aesthetic value to the structure.
