This project delivered 3.4km of shared concrete path and 700m of elevated marine boardwalks through a sensitive coastal environment in Māngere, enhancing public access along the Manukau Harbour.

The works included a glulam timber bridge, extensive retaining walls, stormwater culverts, and landscaping. To meet strict environmental requirements, an amphibious excavator was used for piling, minimising disturbance to the Coastal Marine Area. The end-to-end boardwalk installation method allowed construction without direct contact with the seabed, ensuring compliance with council regulations.

Managing archaeological sites, contaminated land, and protected tree root zones required careful planning and innovative solutions, including an alternative tree root bridging system to protect the natural environment while reducing project costs. The team also led a community coastal clean-up initiative alongside the public opening, reinforcing the project’s environmental and social impact. Completed six weeks ahead of schedule and $60,000 under budget, the project was praised for its high-quality timber finishes, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable construction methods.
