Oxcon delivered the 54m-long, 9-span Waterloo Bridge as part of the Milldale Residential Development, providing a key pedestrian connection over Waterloo Creek.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding wetland reserve, the structure features drilled and concreted timber piles (up to 12m deep), a structural steel frame, internal timber joists, and architectural-grade Kwila decking with inset lighting. A splayed viewing platform with custom-designed seating enhances the bridge’s role as both a functional and aesthetic element of the reserve’s urbanisation.

Environmental challenges included working within a flood-prone area, requiring repeated reinstatement of silt fencing and erosion controls after major Auckland flood events in early 2023. Construction methodology was refined to improve efficiency and quality, including accurate pile positioning, prefabrication of steel beams, and on-site modifications to stabilise handrails and ensure seamless architectural finishes.
