We delivered a $4M enabling works package for AUT’s Wakefield Street development, preparing the site for vertical construction within a highly constrained central city location. The scope included 900mm-diameter retention piling, 151 building piles (up to 1200mm diameter, 20m deep), 9000m³ of staged excavation, soil nailing, rock anchoring, subsoil drainage, and shotcrete walls.

Works were sequenced progressively, allowing the structures contractor to commence early, mitigating the impact of unforeseen delays. Traffic and congestion challenges were managed through detailed staging diagrams, 3D modelling, and a coordinated site access system, optimising truck movements and minimising disruption in Auckland’s busy CBD environment.

The project required smart retaining solutions, including soldier piles, soil nails, and temporary shotcrete walls, while also navigating archaeological discoveries that triggered a two-month site shutdown.
