
Delivered under an NZS 3916 contract, the project has progressed through a collaborative design phase with Holmes, Andy O’Sullivan and Eastbridge to develop an efficient and buildable structural solution. The final bridge design includes steel raking piers supporting a long-span steel girder system, with reinforced concrete abutments and intermediate pier foundations. Prior to piling works, the slopes below the intermediate abutments were strengthened using 15m-long soil nails installed by rope access, followed by installation of 20m self-drilling micropiles at the intermediate piers and bored concrete piles at the abutments and southern pier.
The bridge assembly will involve a carefully sequenced installation of the raking piers, followed by the progressive placement of the steel girder sections. Each stage requires temporary restraint and support, culminating in the central span being lowered into place and fixed. Once the main structure is complete, finishing works will include deck installation, barriers and services.
The bridge sits within a large earthworks zone where native bush is being cleared to form the golf course. Construction is occurring within a highly sensitive environmental setting, with strict ecological controls in place. These include stream protection, sediment and erosion control, and avoidance of adverse impacts on the surrounding bush. Compliance has been closely monitored and commended by Auckland Council.
